under VNC session, can not launch authentication window (with synaptic for example)

Hi,

I m using xubuntu 11.10 with vncserver running.
Sessions launch correctly but when the system should answer me for my password (for synaptic) nothing happens : the authentication window does not launch. Instead, in the console from which I started the server, the following message appears :

Authentication is required to run the Synaptic Package Manager
Multiple identities can be used for authentication:
 1. user1,,, (user1)
 2. user2,,,, (user2)
Choose identity to authenticate as (1-2):

Why does the authentication window does not launch ?
In normal session, the window launches correctly and everything works properly.

What if you run:

gksudo synaptic

Is it ok?

yes, it works. but how can I modify my vnc confs files to have this behaviour by default ?

you can edit the software centre file in /usr/share/applications

maybe polkit doesn't work over vnc, why are you vnc-ing to the box? There may be sleeker ways to achieve what you are doing...

we are a team, with PCs under Windows, and need to have an access to a linux PC to run some apps and to developp others or at least to validate them.
So we need for each of us to have a session under linux on the same machine, and at the same time. VNC can do that from windows.
And it is easy to setup.

and I have tried to fix it with ubuntu-software-center but no way : is there something to add to policy or other to have polkit running under vnc ?

Not sure, I don't use VNC. I'd just stick to the gksudo thing til you can find a nicer way. Do you use admin power a lot?

I use it a lot those days, as I am finalizing the configuration. I hope then not that much.
But the difficulty is that there is no easy-access screen, mouse nor keyboard to that PC, it is only accessed through ssh (putty under windows) or vnc, and for some actions, HMI simplifies life a lot.

Can you help with this problem?
