vlc no audio no video

I can not see video and i can not hear any audio, im so frustrated.

Did you install ubuntu-restricted-extras ?

This will give a tonne of codecs.

Here is how I ran a simple test :
recordmydesktop

strace -f -o strace.txt vlc -vvvv out.ogv > log.txt 2>&1

I will attach the files.
