Local network problem (CCTV software)

Asked by GSO

I am running a home CCTV system which has both an IE9 interface (ActiveX control) and Windows software to access the DVR on the local area (home) network. Both work outside of VirtualBox.

While the IE9 and browser interface works fine within VirtualBox, the DVR software communicating with the DVR recorder on the local area network via port 9000 seems to be able to find the DVR (whether this is through port 80 or 9000 I am not sure), but does not stream the video content of the cameras.

VirtualBox settings are default otherwise (NAT, raw Windows 7 host).

Ubuntu precise (12.04) which does not have a firewall active.

If anyone has any ideas as to where to go from here...

Will it not work with Firefox or Chrome/ium?

The software will stream audio, but not the image, yet a browser will stream both using flash. I know there can be issues with USB ports with VirtualBox, I wasn't aware of any limitations in respect of the LAN though.

Though having said that it could be an issue to do with displaying H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video format.

Not the issue, looks like it is down to a propietory video format used by the DVR (a KGuard, the file format being 'SHA 264'). These files are for use only by the DVR software by the looks, the audio track will play, but for some reason not the image.

Experiencing a local network problem with the CCTV software can be frustrating, as it hinders the monitoring and surveillance capabilities. Prompt troubleshooting and resolving the issue is crucial to ensure uninterrupted surveillance and maintain the security of the premises.
