typing in file created in terminal by vi command

Whenever i create a java file by using vi command and type in that at that time when i press arrow keys alphabets(A,B,C,D) appears what should i do. and how to install jdk6 in ubuntu??

Do you have numlock or scroll lock enabled, this may cause this.

FWIW, nano is a bit friendlier

Num lock on/off status doesnt affect that. i am using acer 5738g laptop
model

you are in input mode you must press ESC and then move with arrows then press ESC i to return in input mode

you can use more simple editor such as nano or gedit (not for terminal)
or keep open some vi manual or quick command references http://www.netads.com/~meo/useful/vi/vi.rm.html
