Windows partition and folders in Windows disappeared in Ubuntu 12.10

Asked by Pablo

I have been accessing Windows 7 partition and files in Windows fine from Ubuntu 12.10. Today Ubuntu froze while running a program. I forced shutdown and now Windows partition disappeared. I booted into Windows; it ran scandisc and then entered. I rebooted into Ubuntu and partition still doesn't appear. How can I recover access to the Windows partition from Ubuntu? Thank you in advance.

You can mount the NTFS partition using Ubuntu. If you use your Windows install media, you can run a chkdsk from recovery console

It may help

Thanks. NTFS partition is mounted.

Then I used NTFS configuration tool to mount automatically by "enabling write support for internal device". However, two questions here. One is that now I get a message that says that SAMSUNG_REC only has 979.9 MBs of free space. I gather that is a recovery partition. I don't now what that message means, if that is good or bad that it only has 979.9 MBs, or what to do about that. Any suggestions?

The other thing is that now the SAMSUNG_REC drive as well as the System drive, which I both inadvertantly write enabled with the same NTFS configuration tool, but then unchecked, continue to show up on the Nautilus side panel. How do I get rid of them there?

I then uncheckd the "enabling write support for internal device" option altogether, rebooted and all three still continue to mount automatically.

I am pretty novice at all this, as you have figure out by now. I tinker and then all of a sudden something happens and I have no idea. Hmmmm
