Lucid ruined Using trial on install cd now but can't get access to my home folder to back up my files
Ubuntu Lucid somehow got fouled up on my laptop to the point that its inoperable. I can't even back up my files with the way it is right now. I used my desktop to create another Ubuntu Linux Server install cd and I opted to use the trial version rather than install, hoping that i'd get a chance to back up my files on an external hard drive from here. Much to my horror, I'm unable to even view the files in my home folder as "I do not have permission" to view those files. I can't find a way to log in so that I can view my home folder in order to rescue my digital soul (my files). What can I do?! If I do go ahead with the install will I be given a chance to back the files up? Is there some sort of recovery option that I can access from when I power on like in windows where you turn on your computer and tap F2/ESC/F10/ or whatever? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP. Its taken me 8 + hours just to get to this point.
