add a new hard drive on a notebook with ubuntu

I have a Western digital Hard drive but cant seem to be able to install it on new notebook with ubuntu, the downloads from WD are for windows and mac only.
how can I install my hard drive?

Is it a USB drive or an internal drive?

Its an external usb one, I used it on my last laptop running windows xp with no problems

Just connect the device and it should pick up as a USB storage. You can then copy data to and from the device. Is this not the case?

Alan, if the drive does not mount by itself you can download mountmanager from soft ware center. Follow help instructions from the app to create a DYNAMIC mount point for your drive. Ubuntu should, but doesn't always see external drives, I had a similar issue on one of my desktops, mountmanager fixed it in like five minutes.
