upstart not working - no linux :(

Asked by trylik

hi

recently i had problems with upstart - it was probably removed by apt-get autoremove and when i rebooted the machine nothing was working. i found a solution - to install upstart manually, so i did it by using live cd and chroot commend, but after the reboot the following things appear:
init: rc-default process terminated with status 12

what should i do?

i don't wan't to reinstall the whole system again

Hmm, well to have an idea what's wrong, we need to get a better error message.

Can you put in the exact text for the 2-3 lines prior to that "rc-default process terminated" line? What we need to know is a) what the name of the failed init process is, and b) what the error message is.

you see i've installed kubuntu again, so i cannot repeat the bug, but as far as i remeber there was a number inside the error text (something about 16 and 3 other digits)
