Oneiric unstable: system suspends even though set to not in 11.10-b2

Asked by Gremlyn1

I recently built a HTPC, and little did I know that Sandy Bridge support was really not there in 11.04, so naturally I had to install 11.10-beta2. Everything really seems quite stable, the one problem I am facing is that the system seems to suspend itself even though I have the power settings for 'Suspend when inactive for' set to 'Don't suspend'. And once in the 'suspended' state, which still seems to be full power, just sans ability to interact with the computer, I have no way to bring it back out and end up having to hard reset the system. So I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I am just missing something here...

I wasn't sure if it was a bug or if I was just missing some setting somewhere... I have since figured out my BIOS was set to suspend to S1 instead of S3, which explains the weird partial-on state I was seeing, but it doesn't fix the fact that the system is going to suspend mode when I don't want it to.

Check in power settings and screensaver settings. Have you formulated an xorg.conf file?

There are no 'screensaver' settings in 11.10. There are options for turning off the screen after a specified time, though, but it is definitely a suspend state issue here. From the best I can tell from the downloads I had running on the machine, it last an hour after I last used it before going into suspend mode. I will open a bug and attach it to this question for reference.

Did you use an xorg.conf file?

No xorg.conf file. Should it really be necessary for such basic features to function properly?
