update problem: could not download all repository index

Asked by KKevin901

An error message pop out:

"Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/Release Unable to find expected entry maindeb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

Got this error message during today update and it said the package information was last updated 17 days before. But I am sure it was updated sooner than that date.

Any help would be appreciate.

thanks

Tried to put 9.04 ISO CD to CD-drive and switch to different server in update manager. Get further error message as below:

"Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1)/dists/jaunty/main/binary-i386/Packages Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs

It still say last update was 17 days before.

Looking for help support.

Thanks

Try removing the CD-ROM from the list of update sources.
You can do this by opening the software sources.

System->Administration->Software Sources

There, go to the second tab, i.e. Other Software.
You should find an entry starting with cdrom://....
Remove that entry and close the software sources.
It will prompt you whether you want to reload the package lists, select Reload and wait for the package lists to refresh.

This should solve your problem.

Arparp3733,

Removed the CD-ROM and check to the System/Administration/SoftwareSources/ tab. There does not have any entry starting with cdrom://...

After close the tag, same error message pops again as below:
"Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/Release Unable to find expected entry maindeb-src/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?)
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

I did un-check that tag http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa...., then exit. No more error message pop out. But when I go back to the SoftwareSources window to check that tag again, the same error message come out again.

Any advise?

Thanks

Turn it off, this PPA is empty anyway: https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive/ppa

"Empty for now, will likely have OOo 3.2.0/3.2.1 debs for Karmic/Lucid later in the cycle.
If you want OOo 3.1.1 upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic)."
