Im new to Unbuntu but installed on a sony laptop without too much trouble.

Im a little confused about how I should install extra programs.
Using add remove programs works fine.
When using synaptic package manager i get the error message as soon as it is opened

E.dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

Previously , I think I was trying to install flash I got an error message about some installer programs already been open and I must close them ( sorry cannot be more specific, at the time I thought a restart would close them so didnt pay much attention )

What I am trying to install is flash for web sites, Limewire and the spam filter add on for the email program. I get folders on the desktop but Im not sure what to do with them .

Open terminal (Application→Accesories→Terminal) and use command "sudo dpkg --configure -a" (without quotation marks).

I have the same problem, i have tried the solution provided.
Those error codes do not appear any longer,
But in the add/remove applications, window any new program i select to add is not able to add
Help me out, thanks
