sudo apt-get update not working

WHEN I ENTER apt-get update...i get this...

naveen@naveen-Extensa-4620:~$ sudo apt-get update
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock directory /var/lib/apt/lists/
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Hi. It seems, that another process is already using mentioned directories. This could be Update Manager, apt-get and so on. Maybe Ashutosh should running this command to try solve his problem?:

| sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
 `-----

The apt system is locked by an other process. This is in most cases caused by another program accessing it. Sometimes background task do that as well. If the problem persists, please try this point one after the other:

1. End all running programs
2. Reboot
3. Follow this procedure: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure
