Irwin, if you're using Oneiric alpha refer to Bug #807715

@ Irwin
Please don't hijack threads when even the issue of questioner isn't clear.
When using developement release search bug reports regarding the package first, as they're expected per definition in a developement release.

I found the answer after I asked the question. I had to use terminal and manually clear and update the system. Everything is working as it should now. Thank you for your help.

I suggest you try changing server. You are also using Oneiric (11.10) not Natty (11.04). Oneiric is only just in Alpha and is not ready, nor is it stable. If you cannot fix issues like this you shouldn't use pre-releases
