Update Failure

Asked by Robert Lucas

Failed to fetch cdrom://Ubuntu 9.04 _Jaunty Jackalope_ - Release i386 (20090420.1)/dists/jaunty/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs

Not only can I not get apt-cdrom to work I don't even know what it means.

Apt is trying to access a package on the original cd but it is not in the drive so run

gksu software-properties-gtk

and untick references to the cdrom. Make sure you have the 'main' repository enabled for downloading from the internet.

See here for more details https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu

Smitten is right about repositories, but Jaunty is not supported any more.Back up all valuable files and do clean install of Natty ( or other supported versions like Lucid 10.4).

Jaunty reached End Of Life on 23rd October 2010 so you will no longer be receiving any security updates. Your problem is not caused by having an older release, so upgrading would be a personal choice (over and above the lack of updates)

Did it fix your problem?
