update manager not working

Could not initialize the package information

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'W:Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ lucid/partner Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_lucid_partner_binary-i386_Packages), E:Dynamic MMap ran out of room. Please increase the size of APT::Cache-Limit. Current value: 25165824. (man 5 apt.conf), E:Error occurred while processing libfishsound1-dev (NewVersion1), E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_karmic_universe_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in update-manager.

First you need to dress duplicate row into the file /etc/apt/sources.list

So open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Please copy and paste the entire file contents here.

I had the same problem. Went through several reboots and fix attempts. Finally, when the Authorization was "stuck" I gave up and clicked on the red 'X' in the top left corner of the Authorization window and that started the download. I had been waiting for it to time out or had clicked on "Cancel", neither worked. So try the red 'X' in the top left corner.

Can you help with this problem?
