upgrading ubuntu with update-manager

hi.i want to upgrade my ubuntu but when im in update-manager i get the version upgrade button and the it goes through all the steps but as soon as you click the Finish button to start the distribution tool update-manager does not close causing the update to fail.please help

it could be done via a cdrom (with the newest version) with: gksu "sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade"
