version 2.3.5 of unixODBC library was released in 2018-01-02. See http://www.unixodbc.org/

Is there any chance it will be included in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS?

This new release contains many bug-fixes and allows to use connection pooling properly when connecting to MS-SQL Server, which now has a free version that runs on linux.

I suggest that you create a bug report, stating the improvements that are provided with this new version.
