I'm running precise now for 3 weeks, and i'm not satisfied. I.ve tried to run dash there are no apps showing I cant find terminal anywhere nor x term. or any games ive downloaded. firefox has lost its javascript and doesn't show youtube, ditto for thunderbird wich can't signin to my popserver at yahoo. synaptic package manager today wouldn't respond came up with an error message.
still can't find a gui for avg. this thing is driving me absolutely nuts. How do I roll back to earlier version? one good thing was touchpad package wich updated last night touchpad now fine. Dash is showing a blank screen not showing apps, dowloads, or even history. anywhere. I don't know where to search for teminal,

Rolling back to 11.10? Download .iso and create a live medium, boot from it and install.

Workaround for current desktop.
You can open a terminal: ctrl+alt+t
or switch to virtual console (text mode only): ctrl+alt+f1
Update your system and reboot.
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo reboot
