my restart, shutdown, log out buttons are not where they should be

Asked by William A Brown

Ok, I really tried to research this on my own and try not to bother you guys but I screwed up. I noticed yesterday that my My restart, shutdown, log out buttons are not where they should be. my normal session menu is limited to, lock screen, suspend, hibernate, and system settings. and yes i know I can add these functions. I just wanted it to be the way it used to be. these things work right in my other two user accounts. in addition, after yesterdays tweeking, when I open up any account in unity mode I cant right click and add functions to the upper toolbar. I'm not liking 11.04! thanks

If you want to reset the panel completely, this procedure should do it:
http://www.watchingthenet.com/restore-panels-in-ubuntu-back-to-their-default-settings.html

However, please note that you must be *very* careful while running "rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel". If you were to accidentally put a space between ~ and / or between / and ., the command would mean something very different, and it would try (and largely succeed) to delete all the files in your home directory. (See my comment in that article, posted 8 July 2011, for details.)

A fresh installation of Ubuntu will certainly reset your panel, so you
can mark this question as Solved. If you experience problems with your
panel again, you can always reopen this question or start a new one.

Since you assign the question to unity, there is no right click option such as 'add to panel'.
Unity and Gnome-shell are different from Gnome2 (which is still the 'classic-session' option on login screen GDM).
If you like some more functions added to the unity panel (global menu) you need to install indicators.
