unity

Asked by gregor mccalman

Have loaded Natty. A couple of questions. Are there no more panels? How do I set my preferences/options for anything I download from the software centre? ie, downloaded gmail notifier, what next? If I right click one of the numerous icons, nothing happens! How do I get it to work? How do I get skype to work on start up? I have dragged numerous icons to the start up menu. Start up menu says it is in there but it doesn't seem to work on start up! Have looked around for unity help but can't find anything sensible, can you point me in the right direction for help please? Sorry to put in so many questions in one post but I think I may have missed something simple in unity in how it works!
Thank You
Greg

First of all the panels - In natty, all the 'FIle' 'Edit' 'View' 'Help' etc buttons have been moved to the very top black bar, out of the way, giving you more screen space. With the software centre open, just move your mouse to the top black bar and you'll see they've been waiting for you ;)

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=577093 hmmm? Have you tried this?:

 Go to the unity bar, click it and type "Startup Applications" and press enter (it'll show after startup),
Click "Add" and enter the following details:
* Name: Skype
* Command: skype

I would try filling those two and not touch the other fields.
