checksum validation

I see no checksum validation in the install - I did install 8.10 via wubi to my laptop and liked it except I found it needs a regular install to allow hibernation etc and to be able to boot instead of Windows.

Trying to install version 9.04 with regular and alternate install version on my laptop, neither did - alternate one seemed to blank screen after time screen.

I've been using a very good server based linux for a few years from www.contribs.org and one item they have switched to is to build in a checksum routine as the 1st part of the install to verify the download is good before proceeding. It seems little attention is paid to this with ubuntu so user problems could be the result of a faulty download.

I am now downloading 8.10 to try correcting the issues with the wubi install.

I should have said md5sum verification , could it be that Ubuntu does the validation without mentioning it?

You need to do md5sum verification after downloading.

To do so you run this command via the command-line or a Terminal:

md5sum -c file.iso.md5

(This assumes the files [iso & .iso.md5] are in the same folder...).

P.S. - There was a known issue in Unetbootin that may have been causing the issues you are speaking of. Please download the daily build of Ubuntu and retest your installation. This may fix your issue all together. The download location can be found at:
