Ubuntu One client launching and authentication is VERY slow

Asked by James Harkins

I tried to submit this through "Contact Us" @ http://one.ubuntu.com, but FAIL... website seems broken. So I'm asking here.

Using the Ubuntu One client in Ubuntu 12.04, it takes a very long time to authenticate.

One issue: Often, when I wake the computer from the suspended session, it fails to reconnect file sync automatically.

Next issue: Then, when I open the Ubuntu One client, takes a long time just to bring up the window. It's not that complicated or large an application (by which I mean, launching LibreOffice Writer takes less time, and Writer does a lot more). I think it's reasonable to expect better performance on a decently-powered laptop: Intel Core i3 @ 2.27 GHz, not the fastest available these days but it's not a pokey netbook either. Also, 4 GB of RAM, nothing is going to swap.

Then: Clicking on "Connect" takes about an entire minute before the connection succeeds. Logging in through one.ubuntu.com takes about 2 seconds. I can't think of a good reason why the Ubuntu One client would be 25-30x slower.

I use Ubuntu One for org-mode / MobileOrg sync, and it means that the sync procedure is:

- Manually open the Ubuntu One client (and wait).
- Click "Connect" (and wait).
- Watch for file sync to complete (usually this is fast, at least).
- THEN do the sync operations in Emacs.

Whereas, ideally, I would wake up the computer, Ubuntu One would quietly and automatically reconnect, so I would just have to wait a bit for the files to resync and then sync within Emacs.

It's not exactly thoroughly broken, but it seems clunky.

Should I file some bugs? Thanks.
