Can I cache subset of files with sync?

Asked by Pinku Surana

Basically, I want cloud storage managed on my local disk like Chrome OS does for the Pixel. Google gives you 1TB of cloud space, but 32GB local storage. I want to be able to pin some important files/directories locally (which is already supported). But I want most files downloaded and cached on demand. Then I want those files removed when my local cache space runs out to make room for more recently used files.

Can I implement this with the Files or SyncDaemonTool APIs? These don't appear to offer fine-grained control over which files get synced. I'd appreciate some hints on how to do it.

Thanks.

You could do something similar with subscribed and unsubscribed folders.

So, you can setup two folders, one that you're subcribed (that could be directly the Ubuntu One directory), and other that you're not subscribed.

Both folder's content would be on the web, but locally you'd have only the subscribed folder.

The problem with this approach, though, is how you'd move stuff between both folders. For this, you need to have both folders subscribed on any of your computers, and do the movement there.

Regards,
