I don't think. Ubuntu is spending much time and money on Unity. Maybe it will be released a derivate with Gnome.

My 10.04 should be supported for another year. Then I will go to Suse linux or back to windows. Unity doesn't cut it on my Powerful tower and 2560 X 1600 monitor.

Although Ubuntu doesn't support it, you can still install Gnome 3 (or Cinnamon) easily via Synaptic.

unity is pretty much the same a gnome 3, but is much cleaner. you might want to wait until MATE is fully developed and use that instead of unity. as enrico said, canonical is making unity the default gui for ubuntu. others have left ubuntu for mint linux. i'm heading in the same direction when 10.04 is no longer supported.

Stick to unity , it is going to get more stronger in the near future .
