Problem Installing 10.10 on Presario 915us

I tried to install Maverick Meerkat 10.10 using LiveCD on my Compaq Presario 915us laptop. The installation just stops at the Ubuntu splash screen. (I was able to run OpenSUSE 11.3 but it ran very slowly.)

Here is the configuration:

CPU: 1.53GHz AMD Athlon(TM) XP 1800+
RAM: 768Mb
HD: 40Gb
CD/DVD: DVD/CD-RW
GRAPHICS: ATI Radeon U1
MONITOR: LCD 15in TFT
SOUND: Ali M5451
ETHERNET: Realtek, RTL-8139
MODEM: Connexant HSF 56k HSFi modem
PCMCIA: Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC
USB: 1.1

Please advise.

When you get splash screen, could you press <ESC> key and report last messages.
