Unable to install Twinkle

Asked by Phaeton

I would like to install Twinkle on Xubuntu 13.10 unfortunately I understand you need to compile it yourself, is there an idiots step by step instruction guide anywhere. For my purpose Twinkle is the best SIP client I have found & it is causing me issues not to have access to it.

Maybe twinkle will be contained in Ubuntu 14.04 again, at least there is already development done.

I have not checked the dependencies, but it might be possible to install the current twinkle package for trusty also on an Ubuntu 13.10 system.

Try downloading http://launchpadlibrarian.net/157839300/twinkle_1.4.2-3ubuntu1_amd64.deb (64 bit) or http://launchpadlibrarian.net/157839649/twinkle_1.4.2-3ubuntu1_i386.deb (32 bit) (select the package fitting to your architecture!) to your system, open a terminal and issue the command

sudo dpkg --simulate -i twinkle_1.4.2-3ubuntu1_*.deb

and check the output for problems (or copy/paste all output into this question document that we can see).

Manfred thank you so much for your answer, I tried what you said but all I got was

alan@Phaeton:~$ sudo dpkg --simulate -i twinkle_1.4.2-3ubuntu1_*.deb
[sudo] password for alan:
Selecting previously unselected package twinkle.
(Reading database ... 139702 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking twinkle (from twinkle_1.4.2-3ubuntu1_i386.deb) ...
alan@Phaeton:~$

I hink right clicked on the file & tried to install via Ubuntu Software Centre which gave the following error "Dependency is not satisfiable: libucommon6"

Alan...

It seems that twinkle for trusty requires lubucommon6 (which is available also for trusty, but not for older releases).

It can be found on http://launchpadlibrarian.net/155394671/libucommon6_6.0.7-1ubuntu1_i386.deb but I do not know if that is installable on Ubuntu 13.10 (might conflict with libucommon5 for saucy).

Can you help with this problem?
