Help with making tvtime work

Asked by mikehi

System: Shuttle SN68SG2, AMD Dual Core 2.8 GHz, lots of RAM
TV card: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1600
OS: Ubuntu 8.10 intrepid, 64 bit
Problem: error message in tvtime cx18 invalid argument cannot open capture device /dev/video0. How can I make this work?

I just installed tvtime and rebooted the computer and the above message is what I get. I read other posts on the topic of TV cards and from a terminal ran lspci -v. There's a bunch of output but what looks like the relevant part is:

01:0a.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23418 Single-Chip MPEG-2 Encoder with Integrated Analog Video/Broadcast Audio Decoder
Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. Device 7444
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 18
 Memory at e8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64M]
 Capabilities: <access denied>
 Kernel driver in use: cx18
 Kernel modules: cx18

How can I make tvtime work with my TV card?

Thanks for your help,
Mike

Please forget this. After looking at the tvtime website I realize I need a different application that records TV programs. Recording for future viewing is very important to us, not just the watching. I will look for other software.

Thank you all,

Mike
