totem package

totem plugin firefox doesn't read all wmv videos

Helo,

I'm on Ubuntu Jaunty Beta , Firefox 3.08, plugin Totem ( Totem Gstreamer installed) , some WMV videos are very easy to read , others just start and then freeze , others don't even start.
All these videos are with .wmv at the end.I can't see where the differences are between these videos??

Try changing the format of the videos to theora.
Its a free video format that is very stable in linux.
Oggconvert will convert the files to theora.
You can install it in add/remove
Applications>add/remove

Actually winff is easier to use.
It should take a while but its better supported in ubuntu than wma files.

uninstall totem plug-ins from add or remove or synaptic. install mplayer
plug-ins for mozilla. it is better.

If you don't care about patents/copyright do a search for "ubuntu-restricted-extras" in synaptic. (System > Administration). That should install all the codecs you need to play videos in proprietary formats.
