could not play videos

when the codecs is not available, you have to install the codecs.

You can install the codecs with:

sudo apt-get install w32codecs ubuntu-restricted-extras

Perhaps you also have to insert the source medibuntu to your system.

Not sure if Totem in 7.10 [Gutsy] offered automatically to install codecs.
Please take a look in Synaptic (package manager), search 'gstreamer' and install packages so called 'ugly' and 'bad', not sure if they're available for 7.10.
Don't worry about the labels, the quality is good, it's about 'restricted formats'.

thank you for your response. finally i have found the solutions from
add/remove programms. actually the "download from" - main server option was
disabled by default.after enabling it i could able to instal suitable
package managers to run the softwares correctly.

Fine, although it makes me wonder, because official servers which are listed usually offer the same packages. Off course packages list has to be up to date also, this can be done by reloading it in Synaptic

A little help. I'm new to Ubuntu and I'm trying to install a file to view DVDs. I found Dragon Play, but when I tried install I get a "Linux-image-2.27.xx.x generic" error. It tries to recover but can't and I am not able to view any movies.

I see that you can download from main server by enabling the option (not sure if this will fix my issue), but I look in Add/Remove Applications and I can't find the option to enable it.

A little help please...

go to application---add/remove---preferences---- software sources---ubuntu
software--check the boxes. after doing this, i think you will be able to get
the required supporting application.

to choose 'main server' please navigate on the panel to system administration -> software sources

To avoid conflicts in the future you may work with Synaptic (advanced package manager), it's a fine tool, shows dependencies and gives informative hints. ##link was mentioned above
