Open more than one instance of Totem Movie Player 2.24.3.

Asked by Bob

Open more than one instance of Totem Movie Player 2.24.3 in 8.10.

Is there a way to open more than one instance of Totem Movie Player 2.24.3?

I like to listen to my local NPR radio station in the mornings and I use the movie player to listen. Sometimes I receive clips from friends that I would like to watch while I listen to the radio station too. If I click on the downloaded file it opens in the same movie player and replaces what I was listening too with the clip. I would like to have a way to view/listen to both at the same time.

Thanks in advance. Bob.

Hi,
I don't see an option for more than one instance,
http://projects.gnome.org/totem/#features

I'd choose a different app to listen radio.
You may add the feature to a wishlist.

Thanks, can you suggest another app to listen to the radio with?

Or one that could be opened in more than one instance.

Where might I request that this feature be added to the wishlist?

Well, as mentioned example 'brainstorm' or you may go to section 'Proposals and Suggestions' here:
http://live.gnome.org/UsabilityProject

As default for listening to radio you'll find Rythmbox in applications menu.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundVideoDefault

In general it is really a matter of taste.
I have good experiences with VLC, which can be easily installed with Synaptic.

You can use "totem --no-existing-session", as indicated here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=49106
