Installing Google Talk and Yahoo messenger

To configure yahoo client in pidgin:

Start pidgin (applications -> Internet -> Pidgin instant messenger)

Click on accounts -> Add/edit

In the basic tab in the drop down box next to protocols select yahoo

In the screen name field enter your yahoo ID (ex john if email id is <email address hidden>)

In the password field enter your account password

In the Local alias field enter your nick name, check remember your password option

and check new mail notification option if you want new mail notification

and click on save then again Click on accounts -> Add/edit

and check the enabled option to connect to your account automatically when pidgin starts

And for google talk

Here are the configuration details
# Protocol: XMPP
# Screen Name: your Google Talk username (without any @ symbol or domain).
# Server: Enter a server value depending on your type of account:

    * Gmail users should enter gmail.com
    * Google Mail users (<email address hidden>) should enter googlemail.com
    * If you're signing in with a Google Account that's not linked to any Google email, enter gmail.com

# Password: I suggest leaving this field blank for increased security, but if you'd like to sign in automatically, enter your password
# Local Alias: leave this field blank or give your nick name to be displayed while chatting
# Remember password: check the box if you'd like Pidgin to remember your password (you won't be prompted to enter it each time you sign in, if you select this option)
# New mail notifications: check the box if you'd like Pidgin to notify you of unread email in your inbox.

then click on save to save your account

Don't forget to check the "Enabled" option if you want to get connected now, After a few seconds, your Gtalk buddies should be added to your buddy list in Pidgin :)

I have one correction, in the hardy package of Pidgin is a New Protocol-Type inside that is directly called GoogleTalk, so you dont have to try it with XMPP

I am not able to use voice chat with google talk and yahoo messenger. As i am a new user to ubundu, Please tell me the way I could use this service.

Pidgin doesnt support Voice-Chat at this moment, but they are working on it. I guess that i have heard that Kopete has such features but iam not sure at the moment.
