Totem should be replaced in Ubuntu 13.04.

Asked by Anthony Huben

Due to how the menu system is set up in GNOME, it is difficult to use some features in totem, known as "Videos" nowadays, under Unity. For example, opening a video file is impossible, unless you know that CTRL-O opens the choose a video dialog box.

Replacement opinions:
GNOME MPlayer
works with many videos, plays DVDs, and can do many of which totem could do, but works better with the Unity menu setup.

OR

Use a earlier version of Totem which includes all opinions, such as opening a file from the menu.

No player in ubuntu will play DvD without adding libdvdcss2. In Unity shell, totem uses the same global menu as the other applications
