Totem Movie Player 2.30.2, player Voice and Video do not Synchronise

Asked by pradeepthomas

I use the Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 using GStreamer 0.10.28 for
my OS -Linux - Ubuntu 10.04 (lucid) - GNOME 2.30.2 (Ubuntu 2010-06-25).

When I play movies, there is inconsistency in the synchronization of Voice and Video. Sometimes the Video holds up at a place while the voice goes on. After a while the Video starts again, but this time it catches up with the Voice, so a segment of the Video is not seen.

The functioning of the Totem Movie Player seems not so smooth!
Have I missed out on including any plugins or packages from the repository? or have something missing for this player?

Kindly advice how to configure for optimum function, also please suggest the best Video/DVD player available which could handle all Video and DVD needs for most all formats.

Have you tried other players like VLC, Gnome-mplayer and so on?

Yes, I have tried the VLC Player not too recently and just recently the
Gnome M player.

The VLC Player is nice, but I am not able to configure it as the default
player. The Gnome M Player also is nice, but this also has a lag at
places, but seems to be better than the Totem player.

What would you suggest? and what would be the matter with the Totem
Players lack of sync?

Which would be the best Choice and why?

Thanks

As VLC plays it well, I'd shoot for that

I use Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid).

Is there a way to configure VLC as default player?

I believe there is a default apps item in the system menu.

Can you help with this problem?
