My recorded video gets choppy after a few seconds of playing
I have an HD DXG camcorder and when I upload and watch these videos on my computer, which is running Ubuntu 10.04 the video playback runs smooth sometimes but most the time it is extremely choppy, while the sound runs flawlessly

Excellent, you can rule out slow hardware as being the source of the problem :-)
The most likely suspect is the video card driver. Check to make sure you have the proprietary Nvidia driver loaded to suit the Nvidia GeForce 6150SE in your machine.

If nothing comes up make sure it's set up to check the repositories for proprietary drivers.
From memory there's at least two drivers available, the 'recommended' one and a developmental one. I've had the best results with the recommend one but try them both to see what works.

Thanks for the complement, yes I have the propriety drivers. Lol the problem was that it is HD video and I don't have the setup to run that. I recoded it to NTSC DVD format and now it runs the way it should be. However if it looks like I should be able to run it with the gear I got, then I would like to figure it out. But my computer isn't set up for HD. So thanks for the help and sorry for being such a newbie, but I guess ya got to start somewhere.
