Can't play DVD or certain audio CD

Says that plug in required to play MP3, searches for it but can't find it. Doesn't indicate what I should do next.

The playback of this movie requires a MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) decoder plugin which is not installed.

To watch a commercial, encrypted , movie on DVD install Medibuntu Repository and the package libdvdcss2 - http://medibuntu.org/repository.php

The first part worked and I can now listen to the rogue cd (thanks!). However, nothing at all happens when I insert the dvd, which is one of those given free with the sunday papers. The system just doesn't seem to see it. I installed and reinstalled libdvdvcss2.
