DVD's won't play, no error message

Asked by Naomi Posner-Horie

Totem used to work, but suddenly doesn't. First I noticed that when I hit "full screen" it wouldn't go full screen, but would rather increase the white space at the bottom while the movie-playing area would diminish. This has happened before and usually adjusts itself when I reboot, but this time, not only did it not fix, now the movie won't play at all. I rebooted again to no avail. I tried another dvd, and nothing. I do not get any error message. I removed the movie player and re-installed it and rebooted. Same problem. Any ideas?

Have you tried other apps?

I'm not sure what other apps I should try. Any suggestions? In the meantime, I figured a way around the problem, although it doesn't solve it completely. If I click on the "go" tab, I can both play and get full screen by choosing one of the options there. But, once I'm in the full screen and exit out of it, I can't go back to it unless I go again to the "go" tab.

Try VLC or gnome-mplayer

Both kick high amounts of ass, especially gnome-mplayer.
