Can't play flv in VLC media player 0.8.6e Janus (wxWidgets interface). Platform is Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008

I have also tried out Totem Movie Player 2.22.1. It does not play in that as well.

Please note, the same FLV video (the same file) plays perfectly well in Windows OS using FLV player.

That's due to CODECS. The player is completely moot.

have you installed w32codecs from the medibuntu repo?
Have you installed ubuntu-restricted-extras and gnome-mplayer?

These 3 packages will pull in a tonne of codecs and may help

What windows does or doesn't do is of no value as the OS is different so codec support is quite different.

Can you help with this problem?
