install the "tor" and "polipo" packages, as discussed here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Tor?action=show&redirect=TOR

Then install the torbutton for firefox here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/torbutton/

Then check your IP changes, as discussed here:
http://www.whatismyip.com/
