Tor can be on Ubuntu?

Asked by souprebel

Will Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop support Tor? I read the thread that gave this link
http://www.webupd8.org/2010/09/how-to-install-tor-in-ubuntu-1010.html it seems old in the nature of this stuff. Is this still what needs to be done?
If so , I am bright green, how do I do it . Those boxes mean nothing to me. A very simple guide is needed.
Where is the Linux terminal $ ?
Do I copy and paste this language into it?
All help is greatly appreciated!

Using TOR is quite advanced, and will slow your network connection a lot; though it is probably the best anonymity tool you can hope for at the moment. Note that releasing information (such as your name (assuming susan is not a pseudonym :) ) is clearly not protected by tor.

To fully explain the tor model, you can probably look up TOR on wikipedia.

Anyway, to answer your question:

To open a terminal, you can either find it in the applications menu (not in front of ubuntu machine atm -- I think it is applications->accessories->terminal), or by pressing CTRL+ALT+T.

Yes, you just copy and paste each of the commands from step 1 (step 2 being optional).

I would also recommend installing torbutton in firefox, to make your life a bit easier

Thanks, I am slowly changing how I use the internet and realize the value of all these tools. I began with reading TOR then on to firefox and linux and back to Tor . I will try it with your help. Cheers!
