thunderbird error message could not be sent i need help to configure my account

Asked by tim

As far as I can remember I haven't made any changes to thunderbird, however I can't send mail now although I can receive mail. Actually so far the problem is sporadic, but most of time it doesn't send. The Send Message Error says the message could not be sent becasue connecting to SMTP sever..(my sever) failed. I don't think this the problem because I have another computer in the house sending mail via outlook express. The Alert has a crazy message, "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responed: 5.2.0 ttdj1c06B2s4Wc901tdk68 automated process detected unsolicited content. Please check message and try again." So I've tried different messages to different address, and sometimes something goes, but again mostly now nothing is going.

The messages seem strange, but one possibility is that your ISP is now blocking standard SMTP (outbound), or your email hosting provider has turned on authentication, or both.

Here are some things to try in your Thunderbird settings:
(located in Edit: Account Settings: Outgoing Server)

1) Instead of port 25, try changing your SMTP to port 2525.
2) Instead of port 25, try changing your SMTP to port 587.
2) Turn on authentication, using your email address (e.g. <email address hidden>) as your userid.

If the above suggestions fail clear the issue, a call to your ISP (email hosting provider) is likely needed.

I tried the different ports with no sucess and the authentication was already being used; so I called teh sever, and it seems it is a problem on their end. So I hope to say the problem is solved. Thanks for your help.
