Is there a way to convert Windows emails to Linux

There is no such thing as "windows emails", what email client were you using on windows?

can you not copy the inbox, outlook files and copy them to the ubuntu install and overwrite the ones taht are in the client at present

Send them to Outlook and then copy them to the Ubuntu Install?

Sorry I meant using Linux computer. You have backed up your emails to a USB stick or external hard drive. So now restore from the backup.

Open thunderbird in Linux (Ubuntu) and click "Tools" and then "Import" .
The Import wizard will guide your through the process .

I have the backed up files saved to the desktop.
When I go to Import in Thunder Linux I go through the steps then it says import from: It doesn't give me anything to choose from.

If you copy over the files, the old emails will be present, you will LOSE any current emails you pulled down in the current setup so don't do this if you have used the client in the new system. You may be able to make a PST and use that in Ubuntu
