Ubuntu 10.10 thunderbird fails to start after firefox is launched

Asked by hemantkarandikar

I have recently installed ubuntu 10.10 (dual boot with winxp).

I installed thunderbird through software center along with lightening extension. Thunderbird works well but it fails to launch after firefox is launched.

If I close firefox, thunderbird starts.

I tried too look for lock files as per thunderbird knowledge base articles. There weren't any -as far I could search.

I will appreciate any help.

Regards

Some clarifications from my side.

I have found that it has nothing any more to do with firefox.

Now thundrbird refuses to start. I get same message.

It worked a few times. Once after I closed firefox.

Here is an update.

I came to realise accidentally that my mail folder being on a separate partition (ntfs), I need to mount it first before launching thunderbird.

I had faced similar problem under 9.04, but had all but forgotten about this issue because I had made the ntfs automount.

I have no clue now how I did that! Search on forum yields something complicated. I recall that I did something simple then.

Any help on how to automount ntfs in a simple way will be great help.

And, my apologies for the mistake in reporting.
