When can gvfs support be expected?

Apparently, thunderbird in Ubuntu only supports the old GnomeVFS (via thunderbird-gnome-support) for e.g. saving attachments. AFAIK, there is/was an open bug about implementing GIO/GVFS support in thunderbird upstream, but I did not quite understand it. Does anyone know when/if GVFS support will arrive in thunderbird for Ubuntu?

When it gets fixed upstream it will be implemented, or if the ubuntu devs can fix it they will submit their fix upstream. It'll be fixed when it's fixed. I'm fairly sure security based bugs will be attended more than functionality like this
