Using TestDisk Application to Unformat Disk?

I'm a brand new Ubuntu user, and intended to initially run it parallel with Windows XP, but managed to accidentally reformat my disk. I'm a complete novice, so please bear with me. Here is what I get when I type "sudo parted -l" in the terminal:

I was advised by someone that I have lost all data from Windows, and my ONLY option is to remove the hard disk and use a forensic tool (whatever that is?) to retrieve lost Windows data.

However, I found an app here called TestDisk, and from what I've read on other sites, it gets very positive reviews, and if I understand the language correctly, it seems as if it may even be able to help unformat my disk.

Can anyone tell me if this is true? And if so, how exactly do I do that? I don't even know which section listed above is the section I need to try to unformat.

I would appreciate if anyone would mind taking the time to explain how I might go about recovering the lost data. I mostly just want pics retrieved, but will take anything I can get. Thanks so much for your time.
