The static variant of libudev

Is there a reason that the package libudev-dev does not come with a static library?

I expect it to pack a libudev.a file, in addition to the shared objects.

Other libraries (like the libhidapi-hidraw that lives on top of libudev, e.g.) have a static variant in their dev package.

I wonder why this is not the case for libudev.

Which version of Ubuntu do you have?

I have Ubuntu 21.10.

I am looking for the static library. The dev package does not have it.

As far as I can see on launchpad, starting with Ubuntu precise (12.04) libudev was no longer built from the "udev" source, but has become part of "systemd".

It seems that from that moment onwards the libudev static library (.a and .la) was not made available any more.
Also in Debian the package does not contain a static library.

If you want that to be changed, you most probably have to start at Debian.

Thank you, I will file a bug report with Debian. I see no reason why there would not be a static lib for this.

I assume that Ubuntu's point of view in that matter will not deviate from Debian.
