Tell me more please..

Do you downloaded packages through update-manager, or package manager?

Or do you click on download button in your browser? :-)
If yes, its *.deb packages?

Type here from where and what are you downloaded...

ps> sorry 4 my English..

okay, installing software onto a linux box has several methods. the one method, which you most likely DONT need to use is compiling from source. this means that you would download the source code of the program that you want (usually contained in a .tar.gz or .tar.bzip). im not going to explain compiling and installing from source as it is usually unneccessary. the two main choices you have is to download the package off the net as a .deb file. make sure you remember in what folder you saved it in. all you do then is run "dpkg -i whatever.deb".

Your other option is Synaptic. When you start synaptic, try the "search" button to search for whatever package you are looking for. if it is not there, do not panic. this probably means that you need to enable extra repositories. goto this URL to find out how to enable repositories: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats

once you have enabled the extra repositories, you should be able to find just about any package you can think of. hope this helps. unfortunetly, i gotta dash, so i cant go more indepth. maybe someone else can just add a tid bit more for this guy. hope i helped.

Can you help with this problem?
