no installation candidate synaptic package manager

Asked by mark s

Hi,

I'm trying to install acroread, but having problems. I'm currently using 7.04 feisty.

After running a successful update ($ sudo apt-get update), I tried to install acroread. Here is what came back:

$ sudo apt-get install acroread
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package acroread is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package acroread has no installation candidate

Danke! Any help you can provide is much appreciated!

Thanks for the question.

Acroread is not part of the official ubuntu repository anymore. However, it can be installed from the Medibuntu repositiory. Here are instructions how to access the repository:

I hope this helps

Fantastic Ralph. Problem solved! I did look for an alternative repo before posting my question, but I obviously wasn't looking in the right place. Thanks for solving this beginner's problem. And fast!
