Installing a scanner

Asked by tutoke

Could anyone point me to a package that would allow me to use an old scanner in Ubuntu 10.04?
It is an A4 flatbed scanner, brand Medion MD900070, connected via usb.
I have been searching for a 'driver' or so since I started using Ubuntu, almost 2 years ago. None of the scan-software that I installed finds my scanner as being connected...

Another practical problem is that of using iTunes under Ubuntu for interacting with my iPod: any suggestion?

Thanks a lot.

Can you boot without the scanner attached, get logged in and the OS settled then open a terminal and run:

lsusb

then attach the scanner, wait 10 seconds then run:

lsusb; dmes | tail

Copy the WHOLE output and paste here as an update

Thanks.
Giving the command lsusb, yields this outcome:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 045e:ffff Microsoft Corp.
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0c45:6406 Microdia
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1b96:0001 N-Trig Duosense Transparent Electromagnetic Digitizer
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

The command lsusb; dmes | tail yields:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 05da:3022 Microtek International, Inc. Scanner 4800dpi
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 045e:ffff Microsoft Corp.
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0c45:6406 Microdia
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1b96:0001 N-Trig Duosense Transparent Electromagnetic Digitizer
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
No command 'dmes' found, did you mean:
Command 'dmesg' from package 'util-linux' (main)
dmes: command not found

That is probably not what you expected?
Regards.

Ok the scanner is identified as:

05da:3022

See if you can find guides based on that ID

Thanks again.
Once more however (I went looking for a proper driver when I first started with Ubuntu), it seems that this scanner is still not supported (and probably never will, although it is under Win7).

Can you help with this problem?
