unable to download any packages via ubuntu freesoftware option

for every package I select I get the message (not available in the current data) and therefore I do not get a download or install option button

Hi,
It looks like your package database is not up to date. Would you please open Terminal (Applications - Accesories - Terminal) and type:
sudo apt-get update
then provide you password. After command finishes please try to install software again

In case updating didn't help, a user reinstalled software-center.
