I am unable to install git-core on my ubuntu 10.04, it gives error of unmet dependencies

i am trying to install git-core on ubuntu 10.04 but it gives following error

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  git-core: Depends: git (> 1:1.7.0.2) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

I have also run upgrade and update but could not solve this problem

What is the output of :

lsb_release -a; uname -a; apt-cache policy git git-core xorg

Are you using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS as desktop or as server?

Lucid is no loger supported on the desktop. I suggest you clean install with Trusty which is LTS and supported til April 2019.

Lucid is only supported on the server (no desktop UI at all).

Can you help with this problem?
